Profile
Chowilla Station offers accommodation at its historic shearer’s quarters on the banks of the River Murray, nestled amongst box trees and red gums. The property has been held by the Robertson family since 1864 and its floodplain is a wetland of international significance, listed under the RAMSAR Convention. The shearer’s quarters are ideal for gatherings of family or friends and can accommodate 28 people. The Murray and the myriad of creeks and tributaries offer some of the best for fishing and water sports in South Australia. The historic woolshed located adjacent to the quarters can be hired for functions such as weddings and birthday parties.
The quarters have two 240v fridges, two gas stoves, a freezer, a wood stove and also a barbecue. All cutlery, crockery and utensils are provided in the fully equipped kitchen. The large dining area is popular with guests and features an open fireplace. The amenities contain four showers and two toilets.
Water is supplied by an overhead tank and the pump is operated by guests. Water is heated through use of a wood chip heater (Donkey) which is also maintained by guests. Some firewood is provided and fresh drinking water is provided.
